EP3 – DIY Crystal Ornament

Hello! Today we are making a DIY crystal ornament out of hot glue sticks. I got this idea from a Youtube video that used diamond-shaped glue sticks and glued it onto a make up compact. The idea inspired me to make something like that but on an ornament because it is almost Christmas and my family and I just put up our tree. So I made these and used these to decorate my tree!

You’ll need:

  1. A clear DIY ornament. I got some from Michaels.
  2. Hot glue gun and a lot of glue sticks
  3. Kid-friendly scissors

Instructions:

  1. Plug in your glue gun. Depending on your age, you may need adult supervision. Place something under the glue gun because it drips glue.
  2. Cut the hot glue sticks into crystal shapes. They don’t have to be the same sizes. In fact, it’s better to vary them in size between 1cm to 2cm in length.
  3. Squeeze a little bit of glue onto the DIY ornament. Before it dries, quickly add a “crystal” (crystal-shaped glue stick) onto the ornament.
  4. Keep repeating until the entire ornament is covered. It does take time but the end result is worth it. (The first ornament took me about 45 minutes to make. But I made about four so far and the fourth time around it only took me 20 minutes.)
  5. If your crystal has some tiny spaces, you can fill the gaps with hot glue. But if the gap are big, then cut more glue sticks and glue them in between.
  6. Don’t forget to unplug your glue gun when you’re done! Now you can hang it on your tree! You can even paint it!

Hope you enjoy and get inspired to make your own DIY crystal ornament! Now on to the show!
